On Thursday, I was fortunate enough to go behind the scenes of Dublin-based rock outfit Bipolar Empire’s video shoot for their new single, ‘Feel That You Own It’, to get the lowdown for RED Radar.

Shot within the confines of a vaguely eerie warehouse in South Dublin, the video is directed by Kevin Godley who has directed videos for Snow Patrol, Katie Melua, U2 and Blur.

Appearing in the video alongside the band is world champion boxer Katie Taylor. She took some time out from pounding against a 20 foot wall to tell Red Radar that playing to the cameras was a tad unnatural to her as she has conditioned herself to ignore the lenses while boxing.

Bipolar Empire themselves had a long day, arriving on set before the break of daylight, but were still full of energy as they gushed about working with Godley and Taylor. They explained that the huge wall in the video, which took three days to construct, represents the various obstacles Irish people have faced in recent times.

Extras in the video chilled on Captain America’s Schoolbus (which doubles as a live music stage) between shots and were all very excited about appearing in a music video. When it came to the video’s dramatic climax, a couple of additional extras were needed. Flying the flag for RED Radar, I stepped up to the plate…

Eyes peeled for my cameo appearance when the video is released in early March – see the Bipolar Empire facebook page for more details.
